What if my child is not attending with a friend, will he have a roommate?
All campers are assigned roommates at the beginning of camp. If your son is attending without a friend, we do our very best to find someone that is the same age. In the event that your son's roommate is unable to attend camp at the last minute, we will find a roommate for him.

What are meals like?
We eat all of our meals in a UCONN cafeteria. All of the food is served buffet style. It is an all-you-can-eat environment at each meal. There is a wide selection at meals; even picky eaters should be able to find something to eat! There is also a vegetarian selection at each meal. They usually have a pasta bar at dinner, a salad bar at all meals, lots of fruit and drinks, ice cream, the regular hot food service, a sandwich bar, etc. There are many options and everyone should be able to find something that they like. IMPORTANT: Please notify the camp administrators at 860.674.1500 or by email at info@jimcalhouncamp.com to notify the camp of any food allergies.

Should my son bring spending money?
We have a camp store (Canteen/Camp Store) that is available to all of our campers. We DO NOT encourage campers to carry cash. We ask that parents make a cash deposit into the canteen at registration. Your son then charges against that amount all week. At the awards ceremony on the last day of camp, we refund the money that your son has not spent. At the camp store we sell t-shirts, pizza, snacks, and drinks.

Air conditioners are not allowed. The hall lights are left on all night, but if you feel that your son might need more light you may want to bring a night light. The beds are bunk beds. After camp begins, if you have housing questions, the 24-hour phone number is 860-486-2697.
